Treat yourself to Santa’s favorite treat, Cookies and Milk, in One Lincoln on December 2nd from 5:00-7:00pm.  Don’t let the name fool you though.  This is a little stronger than what Santa is used to.  Cookies and Milk is our featured beverage on First Friday’s Cookie Walk.  The $7 dink consists of vodka, Kahlua and Bailey’s Half & Half.  The appetizer featured that night is our Blackened Salmon Risotto with Granola Crunch, only $5.  If you enjoy the Cookies and Cream, be sure to come back throughout December because we are featuring that beverage all month.  After visiting us in One Lincoln, don’t forget to stop by the front desk and enjoy a Christmas cookie.  Then, join the “Cookie Walk” and sample other holiday treats at participating vendors.

Breakfast with Santa

Don’t forget to join us bright and early on December 3rd as we welcome Santa to the Gettysburg Hotel for our 13th Annual Breakfast with Santa!  Tickets are $5 per person at the door.  Kids under 3 eat free!  Mrs. Claus will be joining him, as well as his most trusted reindeer, Rudolph.  Get your picture taken with Santa while you’re here and be sure to bring him your Christmas wish list!  The photo is included with admission and will be sent to your mom or dad.  We look forward to seeing you there!

GARMA Gives the Gift of Christmas Cheer to Gettysburg This Year!

Gettysburg Christmas TreeThe Gettysburg Area Retail Merchants Association, known to our small town as GARMA, has undertaken a massive fundraising effort to replace Gettysburg’s worn out, but well-loved Christmas Tree.

The iconic tree has served us well, but we’re ready to deck the square, thanks to GARMA’s impressive efforts, with the new 26’ tree.  Join us on November 25th as we light up our town and introduce the tree to its new home.

Holiday music by roaming street carolers from the Totem Pole Playhouse will fill your ears, hot chocolate compliments of One Lincoln will warm your tummy, coffee from the Ragged Edge will waken your sprit, candy and cookies from Kilwin’s Chocolates and Dunlap’s Restaurant and Bakery will tempt your sweet tooth and the magic of the season will fill your heart as Santa’s shanty opens at 5pm.  Be sure to come early for his arrival by Victorian Carriage Company.  And don’t miss out on telling him your Christmas wishes because he’s only there until 8pm!

Interested in taking in a little history that night?  Visit the David Wills House, located at 8 Lincoln Square, for a tour of the house where Abraham Lincoln stayed when he gave the Gettysburg Address.  Sip on local cider provided for the entire family while your children make their very own Victorian Christmas Tree ornament.  On your tour by a National Park Service Ranger, you’ll learn about 19th century holiday traditions and the significance of the David Wills House to our town.  Admission has been reduced to $2 per adult and the tour is free to anyone under 18.

Many of the participating businesses with GARMA will be open late that night to help you celebrate Gettysburg style.  But with all the fun going on, don’t forget to be back outside in the square around 6pm to experience the grand illumination.

For more information on the evening’s festivities or to make a donation toward the final phases of enlarging next year’s tree, please visit www.gettysburgretailmerchants.com or check out GARMA’s facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/MyGARMA/.

Community partners include Kennie’s Markets, Destination Gettysburg, The Ragged Edge Coffee House, Gettysburg Area Retail Merchants Association, Gettysburg Hotel, Kilwin’s Chocolates, Victorian Carriage Company and Dunlap’s Restaurant & Bakery.

Sips of the Susquehanna

signature-drink2One Lincoln, Gettysburg’s Award Winning signature restaurant, has joined forces with Susquehanna Style Magazine to bring you Sips of the Susquehanna and the Old Chai-Town Signature Cocktail for the month of September. Eight restaurants throughout the Susquehanna Valley have been selected to create custom cocktails perfectly fashioned to bring you into the delicious tastes of autumn.

Peter Bales, One Lincoln’s Restaurant Manager and Mixologist, was inspired by the old world location of the restaurant in downtown Gettysburg and wanted to create a chai tea based cocktail. Prior to the emergence of the ‘modern cocktail’ in the 1920’s using hard liquor, tea was use as the base for cocktails. These originated in Japan, but here in the states, we used tea in alcoholic beverages, mainly in punches for grand balls.

One Lincoln was given a Nolet aging barrel by Diageo and Peter used it combined with Nolet’s award winning gin to create the base for this seasonal favorite. The gin has natural floral hints in its flavor, but when aged, it takes on the oaky quality of the barrel. The range of flavors can vary widely because each barrel is unique. Diageo provided a few cocktail ideas, including mixing it with tea, and Peter ran with it!

He starts by steeping the chai tea, then boils it with honey, nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger root and bitters to infuse the flavors. Once brewed, he mixes the tea with the aged gin and shakes it to wake up the fall flavors.

Here’s how to enjoy this beverage on the Sips of the Susquehanna Tour for the month of September.

  • Start by picking up a copy of Susquehanna Style Magazine at your local Magazine Stand
  • Take the Sips of the Susquehanna Passport (found inside the magazine) and visit three of the participating businesses and request to have it “stamped”.
  • Return the completed Passport postcard to Susquehanna Style by United States mail. Entries must be postmarked on or before October 8, 2016.

You will then be entered for a chance to win gift cards to the participating locations!

Welcome to Gettysburg: A Living History Through Town

For anyone who came to town this summer, the festivities and events commemorating the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg were pretty exciting. There was lots and lots happening all through downtown and out towards the National Military Park.

There’s another 150th Anniversary just around the corner – the 150th Anniversary of the Gettysburg Address on November 18th. First-person historians will greet visitors at several museums throughout downtown at at the American Civil War Wax Museum. President Lincoln will arrive at the Historic Gettysburg Train Station at 6pm and will be met by David Wills before being escorted to Lincoln Square at 6:45pm. The President’s Own Band will perform.

Following the presentation of President Lincoln on the Square, continue down Baltimore Street to the Shriver House Museum. Talk with visitors from the past to learn about their excitement as they prepare for the dedication the following day and the opportunity to see President Lincoln.

A few doors down, the Rupps invite you to their home as they, too, prepare for the following day. Learn how the town faced war and the aftermath in this free interactive walk-through experience.

Stop by the Jennie Wade House for a meet and greet and hear “firsthand” the big event from their perspective at the home located so close to the activities of November 19th, 1863.

Continue to Steinwehr Avenue, where you will meet the Rev. and Mrs. Dobbin at the Dobbin House. Visitors will also find General and Mrs. Meade, as well as a Confederate Soldier demonstration and medical hospital encampment at the American Civil War Wax Museum. Gen. and Mrs. Anderson will greet you at Gen. Pickett’s Buffet. You will also have the opportunity to meet Ralph Lincoln, the great, great, great, nephew of President Abraham Lincoln, at the Lincoln Train Museum.
