Pamper your Loved One in Gettysburg

The other day I wrote about Valentine’s Day at the Gettysburg Hotel. This year for Valentine’s Day, pamper your loved one with a getaway in Gettysburg! Our charming downtown is the perfect place to relax and spend time together.

Speaking of relaxation, I suggest enjoying a fabulous couple’s massage.

Here are three places in downtown Gettysburg to check out:

1) Studio 1 1 on the Square:
This brand new massage practice and yoga studio is conveniently located right on Lincoln Square! They provide their clients with the ultimate in pampering and never charge extra for warm stones, steam towels and specialty oils used during appointments. Click here for  prices and more information.

2) Breaktime Massage
Breaktime Massage, located at 153 Carlisle Street, can accommodate couples in the same room or separate rooms if they choose. They also offer a new client incentive as well as a loyalty program for repeat massages. Click here for  prices and more information.

3) Gettysburg Day Spa
I have mentioned the Gettysburg Day Spa’s services in a previous post. Located at 221 Chambersburg St., they are offering a special price of $150 for their couple’s massages throughout the month of February. Click here for more information.

Shop Local Buy Local “Green Cards”

A local business owner with a passion for small businesses  started a site a year and a half ago called ShopLocalBuyLocal.com. If you have not heard of ShopLocalBuyLocal, it is a social networking site that promotes Main Street America in Gettysburg and surrounding towns! Visit their website here and watch a video of creator, Jeremy Schaffner explaining this great concept of supporting local business.

The newest addition to this movement is a reward program that offers discounts and prizes when you support participating businesses.

The new “green cards” give shoppers a 10% discount on businesses listed on the card. Once 8 out of the 10 businesses have been stamped, it can be mailed in for a chance to win other prizes.

According to a recent article in the Evening Sun, “If the promotion is successful, Schaffner said he hopes to do two or three cards a year, each featuring a new set of businesses.”

The cards can be picked up at any of the following businesses: Scott & Co. Fine Jewelers, Massage of Trichotomy, Earl’s Inn, Scozzaro’s Old Mill Inn, Handcrafted For You, Tail Chasers Grooming, Gettysburg Day Spa, Nature’s Pet Place, Sacred Lotus Yoga Studio and The Pottery Box & Gift Shop.

When eight of the 10 businesses have been stamped, mail the card to P.O. Box 3653, Gettysburg, Pa., 17325, for a chance at a $10 gift certificate.

Pick up your card during your Shopping Spree Getaway in Gettysburg for even MORE deals! 🙂

First Friday Gettysburg Style- November

It’s that wonderful time again- First Friday in downtown Gettysburg is tomorrow, November 5th. Take a look at what was going on last month, by checking out my previous post.

If you are unfamiliar with First Friday, it is a wing of the Gettysburg Area Retail Merchants Association, also known as GARMA. Area stores and restaurants are encouraged to extend their business hours, offer special sales and promotions, and host special events or hospitality in their establishments the 1st Friday of every month.

Just a little bit about GARMA: They are a non profit organization that has been in place for over 50 years to help serve their business members which include retailers, restaurants, attractions, accommodations and others. To learn more about GARMA visit their website and be sure to “like” them on Facebook!

If you haven’t experienced downtown Gettysburg on  First Friday, I highly recommend. There are many things going on and there’s something for everyone! Here are some of my suggestions to put on your list:

Wentz Stained Glass Studio located on York St.  is offering a discount on their “Walk-in” fused glass workshop. This is such a great opportunity to make your very own one-of-a-kind glass souvenir. No experience is necessary and the class takes about 30 minutes. Relax and be creative! You can even create a glass ornament to gives as a gift. Be sure to leave yourself extra time to look around the studio at the gorgeous glass creations!  Classes are normally $19 but on First Friday the price is only $15. Read more about the walk-in workshop here.

Glass art -the creative possiblities are endless!

The American Civil War Museum Complex

Do good and save at the same time! The American Civil War Museum invites you to bring a non-perishable food item and receive free admission to the Wax Museum! They are located at:
297 Steinwehr Avenue
Gettysburg, PA 17325

By the way, GARMA will have a prize table set up there inside the Gettysburg Gift Center as well as in front of the Gettysburg Hotel. This month’s prize is  a basket from Island Dog featuring a 160z. Mia Bella Candle, Votive in a holder, Mia Bella Plug in and a $15 gift certificate from Island Dog (valued at $60.00). Includes Shampoo, Conditioner, or any styling products. Good Housekeeping Magazine recently recommended a Blow product! Learn more about the Gettysburg Day Spa here and take a look at their services!

Pages of the Past Bookstore located on York St. is offering15% off their exclusive Northern Lights Candles and holders. They are very nice, quality candles. I also here a rumor there may be brownies available to shoppers! If you’re not familiar with Pages of the Past, here is a previous blog post about them.

Foxxy Moxxy Boutique is always a fun stop, but especially tomorrow! Stop by and say hello to the ladies and enjoy a Turkey Martini! (if you didn’t have too much at Adams County Winery beforehand, of course! 🙂 ) I’m not exactly sure what a Turkey martini is, but I hear it involves cranberries and vodka. Stop by and see for yourself! According to Foxxy Moxxy co-owner and artist, Bobbi Becker, “if you drink 3-4 of them you act like a turkey!” Check out my post about the Foxxy Moxxy Boutique. You just may want to get some early Christmas shopping done too.

After shopping, sipping and dining downtown finish off the night at the Majestic Theater! The Gettysburg College Department of Theatre Arts and the Sunderman Conservatory of Music present Lerner & Lowe’s “My Fair Lady,” one of the most beloved musicals of all time. The show begins at 8pm and tickets are $20, $15, $10 ($5 discount for students)  (fees & taxes included) Purchase your tickets online here.

As always, be sure to look for the First Friday flag hanging at participating retailers’ stores!

Relax and Unwind in Gettysburg

With schools beginning again so soon, there’s no doubt some relaxation is in order.  Make the most of this last week or so and take some time to rejuvenate before the hustle and bustle of fall is in full swing.

Our quaint town of Gettysburg offers the perfect setting to relax and regroup. First stop: The Gettysburg Day Spa.  The Gettysburg Day Spa, located within walking distance from the Gettysburg Hotel, offers a full-scale spa experience in a historical civil war property. Their services range from salon services to facials, massages, manicures, pedicures and body wraps/scrubs.

They offer a Thai massage, which is a four hand massage performed by two therapists! In a regular massage the client can keep track of the movement of the hands. In a four-hands massage the mind simply can’t follow the motion of the hands any longer and consequently ‘gives up’! (Talk about the ultimate relaxation!)

More than likely, your feet could use a little love after walking around in your bare feet or in those flip flops all summer. Spa pedicure to the rescue! Plus, the Gettysburg Day Spa offers the area’s only ozone generated six-jet whirlpool pedicure chairs!

Read more about their other services here and join them on Facebook.

Second Stop: After your luxurious day at the spa, stop by Adams County Winery or Hauser Estate Winery’s Downtown Wine Shops. Adams County Winery is located at 25 Chambersburg St. and Hauser Estate is located at 17 on the Square. Bring your selections back to the Gettysburg Hotel. Be sure to book a room with a jacuzzi, of course!

This Spanish proverb says it best – “How beautiful it is to do nothing, and then to rest afterward.”
